The Foundation partners with top-performing nonprofits and social entrepreneurs to deepen their impact, dismantling barriers for those facing poverty and enabling them to realize their potential.
We are looking for a Managing Director to lead our Foundation’s Measurement and Technology capability, advancing Customer First Measurement that puts the individual in need at the center of decision-making. Customer First Measurement is an approach to nonprofit measurement and learning that prioritizes elevating the voices of those receiving services, the “customer” of the social sector, ensuring that organizations effectively use customer data to drive decision-making. The Measurement and Technology team at the Foundation aims to increase adoption of customer-first tools and methodologies among nonprofits, partners, and peer philanthropies. In this role, you will lead a talented team of technologists, coaches, and researchers to support nonprofits in continuously improving their programs based on customer feedback. Your work will directly contribute to building a more effective social sector.
How You Will Contribute
- Setting team strategy and vision: As the leader of the Measurement and Technology capability, you will be responsible for setting and advancing a bold vision for transforming the social sector through Customer First Measurement. This will involve establishing a shared vision of what success looks like between your team and the Foundation’s priorities and ensuring progress towards that vision.
- Team leadership and development:Mentor, coach, and develop team members to ensure high performance and continuous growth, consistent with the values of Principle Based Management.
- Developingthe product suite: The team has a rich suite of products and services that are helping partner organizations more effectively measure impact. You will be responsible fordriving the continued growth of these products and for fostering a culture of productexperimentationto help meet the partner needs of tomorrow.
- Engaging with donors: As a philanthropic community, an important part of your work will be ensuring the Foundation’s supporters and partners are connected to your team’s work and contributing with their time, talent, and treasure.
- Buildingpartnerships: STF recognizes that to transform the social sector with better measurement and technology,we need other organizations to walk alongside us. You will be responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with other foundations, technology companies, and influential leaders in the social sector.
- Influencing the social sector.Represent the Foundation at conferences, workshops, and other industry events to share insights and best practices in Customer First Measurement and nonprofit technology.
What You Will Bring
- 10+ years’ experience in product development/management with a track record of building and shipping great products
- History of managing teams with diverse skillsets and strength in setting vision and rallying colleagues around it
- Ability to translate technical concepts into terms that are easy to understand by non-technical audiences
- Outstanding economic thinking and ability to prioritize ruthlessly
- Ability to switch altitudes and go from the 40k ft view to low-level technical details where needed
- Willing to fail fast and continuously iterate
- A human-centered approach to product development and design
- Comfort in representing the Foundation in speaking engagements and forums with wide and diverse audiences
- Capability to forge partnerships in likely and unlikely places and think creatively about ways to generate mutual benefit
- A dissatisfaction with the status quo of the social sector in America today
- A belief in the capacity of every person to achieve great things if provided with the right opportunities
Standout Candidates Will Bring
