Policy Fellow
Job Description
Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is the premier grassroots organization focused on advocating solutions to the country’s greatest challenges. We recognize that tens of millions of Americans are frustrated with the extreme partisanship in government that keeps common-sense reforms from being passed, and instead seek to stand with policy leaders who are committed to finding a better way.
Americans for Prosperity is part of the Stand Together philanthropic community.
Americans for Prosperity (AFP) seeks a Policy Fellow to lead its efforts in Administrative State Reform and Congressional Capacity. We seek a liberty-minded individual with solid policy experience in reducing the power of unelected bureaucrats, restoring legislative authority, and enhancing Congress's ability to craft, oversee, and implement effective policies.
What You Will Do:
- Lead the development of a policy agenda focused on restoring separation of powers with a current focus on reforming administrative law and enhancing Congressional capacity.
- Produce research reports and policy briefs to inform decision-makers and the public on key issues related to administrative state reform.
- Collaborate with our government affairs team to draft testimonies and briefs for legislative initiatives at federal and state levels.
- Translate complex constitutional and policy issues into accessible language for use by our advocacy and communications teams.
- Engage with Congress, think tanks, and other stakeholders to build coalitions for reform.
- Represent the organization at public events, including scholarly panels, conferences, and media appearances.
- Advise on and help implement strategies within a larger group of organizations to align with broader goals for reform.
- Mentor policy analysts in research and development of policy solutions as well as growing their independent expertise.
What You Will Bring:
- 7+ years of policy, legislative, or legal experience with at least 4+ years of focus on administrative law, legislative process reform, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of constitutional principles, particularly Article I of the U.S. Constitution and the balance of power between the branches of government.
- Demonstrated understanding of federal agency authority and the legislative process.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of translating technical issues into clear policy recommendations.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a deep commitment to advancing liberty and limited government.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Proven record of thought leadership and collaboration with policymakers, scholars, and advocacy groups.
- Passion for restoring congressional capacity and limiting bureaucratic overreach.
What We Offer:
- Competitive benefits including: 6% 401(k) match with immediate vest, flexible time off policy, health and dental plan options, and free access to wellness services through Peloton and Talkspace.
- A meaningful career and a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving the lives of others.
- Opportunities for professional development and mentorship based on impact, not tenure, including a year-long onboarding program with multiple chances for in-person collaboration and travel to our Arlington, VA headquarters.
- Competitive salaries and bonus opportunity. Our compensation approach is aligned to the value you create, not a standardized bell curve.
